Working with survivors of child sexual abuse

London, May 18 2019

Facilitated by Matt Carey and trauma therapist Sarah Paton Briggs, this 1-day CPD workshop was designed to equip counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists and other mental health professionals with skills for working therapeutically with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

I learnt a great deal from Sarah and Matt
— Robert, psychotherapist

With an emphasis on working with individual clients (rather than couples or groups), the workshop offered theory, practical knowledge, and skills to help practitioners work more confidently with client presentations and issues around childhood sexual abuse. The role for equine-facilitated therapy was also discussed, alongside room-based approaches.

The programme also includes a Q&A with Matt Carey, regarding what’s helpful or unhelpful when working with CSA survivors – drawn from his own experience during his recovery journey.

This is important so that the survivor’s voice is heard. Matt’s strong calling is to work as an advocate for survivors of CSA – through speaker events, training courses, and conferences.

It was a day of sensitively-handled, informative and insightful learning
